A Certified General Accountant (CGA) is a professional designation earned after completing specific coursework and exams in accounting. A CGA can provide a full range of accounting services, including auditing, taxation and financial planning. In order to earn the CGA designation, candidates must complete an accredited accounting program and pass the Uniform CPA Exam.

In order to become a certified general accountant, you will need to:

1. Complete an accredited accounting program

2. Pass the Uniform CPA Exam

3. Meet all requirements of your provincial or territorial institute or association

Once you have met all the requirements, you will be able to use the protected title of Certified General Accountant and use the post-nominal letters “CGA.”
